Second chair with sculptured seat

1 leather seat, 1 sculptured wood seat.    Not quite sure what next should be.   I think I will continue with the sculptured wood seat theme, I think it is the most comfortable.  As well I am planning on making the back more “springy”.   Am trying to find a way to allow the back support to both bend and twist to the sitters back.   Think I have a good idea…will see how it works when it is incarnated into wood.   I am already seeing how much faster it is to build second and third chairs…..each one not only being built more efficiently but am also finding that I am adding more and more details to subsequent models…boredom? or result of freedom from technical concerns.   The last of the 6 may end up being way over the top….which is one of my tendancies that I am always attempting to tame……a bit of a paradox…….I truly appreciate simplistic and elegent design, and this is always my starting goal…but somehow I end up …….elsewhere….I have an urge to attempt superficial simplicity but with inherent detail and sophistication.    Impossible?   We will see what the wood will let me do.

Chair building

OK…….have begun new project……the plan is to make 6 chairs, all unique, but yet clearly sharing the same heritage.   Beautiful, flowing, respectful of the wood, and comfortable is the goal.

Comfort seems so self-evident…but it is very fleeting.    I own a car that has 5 programmable seating positions.   The seats could be adjusted  in ALL directions.  Strangely I could never find the “right” position.   No position was wrong, but none were right.   What was perfect one day was not the next.   Seating was mood and task dependent.    So I  guess the chairs will each of it’s own mood.   It will be interesting to find how mine and my guests relationship with the chairs evolve.   I will post pictures of completed chairs on my web page (page 6):
